-Official- Is this car worth it thread - vol. 2
Tough choice. 02-03 IMO are the best AP1's, more refined and have a better ECU/Fuel map - fixed a lot of the little quirks from 00-01. 04-05 are my Favorite AP2's because they retain the throttle cable where it is replaced with drive by wire in the 06+.
I'd take the AP2, having driven both for quite some time. You get much more when you buy an AP2, Stronger Transmission and Differential(albeit not by much), more torque in the F22 over the F20. The AP2 feels more refined as you're driving it, you can tell it took time to figure some things out in the AP1's. AP2's have revised suspension angles helping the car to be less of a oversteer monster that the early AP1's were known for. The Clutch in the AP2 may last out to 130k+, my AP1 had 134k on it and I beat it relentlessly and it never slipped. Have 74k on the AP2 clutch now and it holds GREAT.
That being said, if you were to purchase the AP2 I would immediately remove the Clutch Delay Valve but this is just personal preference for many people. Depends on driving style, they say.
I also would probably stop using Mobil 1 in the engine, some people have no issues with it but it seems more often than not Mobil 1 is not recommended in these engines.

For some reason I thought they didn't introduce the CDV until the later AP2s (like '06+). I can't seem to find the great model year/feature breakdown page I read this stuff on. Agree about the CDV though. Had one in my '05 M3 and yanked that think quick. Much better without.
Regarding Mobil 1, I'll do a search, but I thought that's what Honda uses for S2000s?
I think that 03 is the best year, although I'm not very fond of that color. I'd probably get the 03 and use the 5k to bring it up to perfect condition. I'd get some new wheels and put some more rubber on it. If you're coming from a turbo Miata, you'll probably prefer the personality of an AP1 over the AP2. Have you driven either?
Tough call. Both deals have their pros and cons.
As far as depreciation is concerned, it is mostly mileage related with these cars. If you rack up a ton of miles, yes, you'd see some noticeable depreciation (The AP2 may have potentially more, given that it is a higher price, but again I think depends on mileage). However, there are some members on here that have kept mileage down and actually sold their cars at a gain. As far as model year is concerned, I'd expect the depreciation to be similar.
You also probably could trade/sell the 18's and revert to stock wheels if you wanted on the AP2.
I personally sprung for an AP2 because I really liked the updated interior - console, door panels, etc.; the exterior updates (especially ft bumper and head/tail lights) and newer wheels, as well as the AP2 gearing and transmission. I liked the idea of wider tires and tuned down suspension (the fact that it is not quite as prone to oversteer), though I'm not a good enough driver to notice the suspension, steering or torque adjustments. If these things do appeal to you, I'd say go for the AP2. That said, I'd still be mighty happy in an AP1.

Hey guys I just checked out this 2004 Silver Stone S2000 and wanted to get your input if it's worth buying.
Here's the info:
2004 Honda SilverStone S2000
Clean title
106,000 miles
Red/Black interior with no tears
A couple of control buttons scratched
Front bumper scraped on bottom and bubble/spider web
Rock chips on bumper and fenders
Rear driver tail light moisture
All tires need to be replaced
17" aftermarket wheels
Original radio and speakers but CD doesn't eject
Missing antenna
Gauge cluster flickering
Top has typical tears on driver/passenger side and covered with tape
Cigarette lighter is missing the housing
Ding on passenger door
original timing belt tensioner, water pump, and clutch
Skunk2 dual exhaust w/ no silencers
K&N air filter with no carb sticker
The car was rear ended so the trunk was fixed and the bumper and passenger tailight were replaced with oem parts.
All for $11k
Should I jump on this? I'll be bringing this back home to CA so I will have to pay tags, registration, and smog.
