Reading through this thread, and having been in the market for an S2000 for a while now, I'm surprised at how overpriced most of the S2000s for sale on this forum's marketplace are. I consistently see AP1s and AP2s in the marketplace going for $3k or more than comparative mileage/mods S2000s on craigslist and other auto sites. I've also noticed that KBB value on these or more or less completely wrong, as it almost always values them at way more than they are actually selling for.
Am I missing something here?

From what I've seen, I would pay no more than $16k for an AP2 or $12k for an AP1, unless it was very low sub-50k mileage or had valuable mods. Just my opinion.

A car is only worth what a buyer willing to pay. Sometime a buyer will ask for more because they reluctanly want to sell it. Kinda make me sell offer. You just have to find a willing seller.

On the verge of getting this one so if anyone can give some input it would be great.

2006 Red 90k
Fluids looked good
Has a half dozen scratches on the outside. One minor dent under the mirror. Rock chips on hood.
New tires
New soft top
Windshield has crack, but will be replaced by dealer
Previous owner was a smoker. Not extremely rank, but still smells a little.
One owner only
Clutch seemed good on test drive, went to red line fine.

Price $13888 + taxes
Total after tax , Reg, fee, etc. $15.9k

Yay or nay?

Thanks guys

the average trade in value is $13,800. so if ur buying for trade in price that is a great deal. if it was black, silver or white, i'd buy it myself.

Well i signed for the car on the condition that it passed a compression test. Got news today that it was 235, 175, 230, 235 so it did not pass. The transaction was cancelled with no hassle at all. They were actually really good about it, but I did see they reposted the car on craigslist for $18888. I hope no one get's suckered into this car.

Hey guys! I've recently decided to get rid of my old car and have a sporty car now that I'm in SoCal. I've been searching for a decent black 2006-08 with not too many miles. I've come across a 2006 that has just over 60k miles on it and the dealership is asking $20,000 for it before taxes and fees. The Carfax shows it has only one previous owner and it has been in one minor accident at ~14,000 miles but everything seems to be fine. From what the dealer told me, the guy sold it to an auction, and the dealer got it from there. It has a clean title and everything, I'm just a iffy on purchasing the car because the dealership seemed pretty shady and had a decent amount of bad reviews of people getting ripped off. I did a brief inspection on the car and didn't find anything wrong with it besides minor wear and tear on the interior. Could anyone here give me some advice on what to do in this situation? Thanks

Pictures of the car:

I'd offer 18k out the door and not at dime more. Start at 17k and work up at 1k increments. Seriously...dont go over 18k out the door. Anything more and just walk...you can find a better deal on this site in "Cars for sale" section. Tires are shit
