Honda e
Yeah it skim reads but makes a decent point at a high level
being 'in software' I have seen plenty of evidence of good and bad.. and very bad. And worse.
Ultimately it will create a cyclical development and cars will be left behind, as we have seen before really. Only now it's more critical to the car
Can't use the new rapid chargers? Tough shit homie.
The key, as ever, is to keep it ****ing simple. Tesla don't do that imo so I believe they are hugely over valued. Yes they have stolen a march on tech dev but the cars are ****ing shyte.
I think they will look like eBay and Amazon in a few years, laden with tech debt and a compromised economic moat.
Although Amazon are now using their size to kick the shit out of everyone, no matter how bad a job they actually do.
Whether the leasers will ever give a shit I dunno. They are like home renters, they don't care if the boiler breaks. All the time.
The entire market is passing me by too, both from any desire to drive them or to incur a mortgage sized monthly.
The e is a bit different and it's certainly fun daily duties transport.. and TCO is low enough

Well the software, though based on Android allegedly, is shit as suspected.
You won't really notice day to day, using the car. But the app, which will let you do stuff like find, remote lock, remote warm etc, is utter tosh
Car has an eSim but feck knows who that connects to. Disney?
Only gripe so far and I don't need it but it plays to that skim thin article I linked above

they could.upgrade this app, it's pap. I think it uses RAS type tokens but yes, your phone can become a key
My car is safe though cos it don't work
and the complaints list on the e forum is 26 pages long despite having only sold 27 cars
That is so symptomatic of this Technocratic New World Order - they have fantastic ideas about how technology will do everything, oblivious to the fact that most of the technology either doesn't exist yet or is very beta.
Amazon drones keep fallin' on my head,
But mRNA means I'm already dead.
I can't unlock my Honda e
And Dr. Phibes asks "where is the key?"

It sounds pretty typical of Honda, and of Japanese companies in general. Good hardware and terrible software was a hallmark of Sony.
Remember Sonic Stage anyone? This was the Sony version of iTunes which was somehow worse than that abomination. It managed to lose Sony the portable audio player market.
Maybe it's a cultural thing?
Funnily enough, it seems VW is also having lots of problems with the latest touchscreen software in the Golf and ID3. Maybe it's an AXIS thing?

I have had two Sony AV amps - both of which display a menu about source change that must be closed manually by clicking on the source you selected with the Sony AV Remote, this menu comes up about 10 seconds after you've started watching the source you selected. I sold both and replaced with Denons that do not have the same frustrating behaviour.
Yeah agree. Though Sony seem to have learnt their lessons on the PS5 my son has. Or maybe I just don't use it enough?
but that is decades of evolution on their part. Honda have been shit at this for a long time.
the yanks are ahead on this i think but the (lack of) quality of the cars Tesla are pushing out is too much of a disadvantage (to me, as a buyer), the software integration is sort of a nice to have, so long as it works and supports android auto i will use that for stuff like maps and music and the screens are all good technically
meanwhile the dealer "mechanics" have the rug pulled out, they arent electricians and certainly not it support
