I'm at 241 w/ 12:1 and AEM EMS. Valvetrain has been lightened. Flywheel lightened. Header, testpipe, Invidia dual. 93 octane. I know location and dynos have a lot to do with final numbers, but I hesitate to project 250 easy.

I don't think you can assume that because a 2.0L motor puts out 200 rwhp that an increase of 25% in displacement will net 25% more power. Not being an engine specialist, I am going to guess that there is a point of diminishing return.
that s very interesting. If I remember correctly the other s2ki member I saw with the 2.5L was at 11.5.1 compression ratio. Had gears, flywheel, and a 3" custom exhaust with tuned es and he made 250whp.

I will do a search to see if i can find his thread.

1rst 2.5L Thread

Here is the thread. I believe he made 230 with just the kit and tune. then 240 when adding flywheel, test pipe, and gears. then hit 250whp with the exhaust. However I don't know how much he made with the itb's installed.

It says you can play with fuel, but only RETARD timing? is that true?
Hmmm...good question. I can't imagine it would only give the capability to retard and not advance as well, but if so, then it's definitely not such a great deal.

Is the VAFC just temporary until you go EMS? If not and the cost difference is the reason to go VAFC, might want to see if the new AEM piggie-back is on the market when it is time to buy.

Supposed to go for under $500 and give ability to adj timing and modify outputs rather than inputs. Looks like it might be a low cost EMS alternative and still be able to get you past a smog inspection.
Yes, the VAFC would be "temporary" as temporary is...I'd probably have it on the car for quite some time in that setup as I pay off the motor, but I will more then likely be getting a 1052 in the late future.

sounds like a safe plan. i think because of its simplicity the VAFC2 is one of the most underrated tuning tools out there.

Not to wander off on a tangent, but I've been considering a lightened flywheel when I replace the clutch. Does the flywheel play any role in balancing the F20/F22 engine, or will a lightened flywheel have any effect on wear and tear on any engine components?

Dean, I believe I have read that using a lightened flywheel is not as great as it was once thought on this motor. I've had mine in since '04, so it's staying. I can offer no technical reasoning to support my above statement.

Thanks much. I've searched around some, but have not been able to find a definitive answer one way or the other.

I have a Comptech flywheel...I've have not had any issues, but like others, that is as much as I know. The Comptech Flywheel is 9lbs I believe, 7lbs lighter then stock. I have been running it for nearly 40k miles
