Great questions, Corey. I think my STR build will be more along the lines of an "STR-lite" too. This is a great thread to learn.

I will be looking for as much plug-n-play as possible due to lack of mechanical skills/experience/competence. However, I push pencils with the best!
I think all you need is an STR-lite. Just get the bits that are important right. Springs, shocks, sways, alignment, wheels, and tires. The rest is icing on the cake. The S2000 is pretty solid out of the box.

[QUOTE=captain_pants,May 24 2010, 10:25 AM] Yeah, I'm approaching this cautiously.

I'm leaning slightly towards the Dunlops just because of the good cold-weather performance. We have more events than I'd like in 35-40F with standing water. Are the RS3s good in those conditions?

Note that this is supposedly the same shock valving that won AS in 2008, obviously not with me in the car. Hopefully Stimola didn't screw it up. I certainly need more time in the car to find even a baseline setting for the shocks...

Looks like digressive/digressive.
That looks like linear/digressive to me. The slight knee at 0.5 in/sec is just the blow off from the compression stack opening. Notice how the knee position doesn't change regardless of the adjustment.

Corey - I agree with Nick, you should be fine without a re-valve.

I would agree with Star Specs based only on what I have heard from others. Better for rain and R-S3 likes to have more heat in them.

Have fun!

I found the Dunlops to be dreadful in the cold.

Compared to _________? What do you prefer? I had FTD on the 225 Dunlops for a while at a local event (32F and rain) until the weather changed dramatically for the better. Then someone on RE-11s took it away about 1.5 hours later. Maybe I just had a REALLY good day...

By the way, thanks to all that have shared info in this thread! I read it in passing before as it was interesting. Now that I'm actually considering playing in this game I'm going to read this all from the start again. Nice resource!

I'd rather be on RE-11's than Dunlops in the cold. In fact I'd rather be on anything other than the Dunlops no matter what the conditions are.

I haven't driven on RE11's but I drove on RS3's this past weekend in both the wet and the dry and came away very impressed. They felt miles better then the Dunlops. I will be ordering a set of RS3's for my car in the next few weeks probably. Now that I have finally reached my threshold of pain on race rubber.
