yeah, i used to have the STX WRX running in PRO class. Blue with florescent orange wheels, but that car was retired two years ago (not sure if you were running back then). Last year i drove the white ASP Solstice and this year the black ESP WRX. I just got the s2k a few months back.

I got the car in April '08, and moved to Detroit the year before, so your WRX is before my time. I do however recall seeing a white ASP Slowstice set FTD at the Palace once. That thing was mean!

Sorry for the digression everyone!

I've got a question.

The rules allow for modifications to the air intake 'system', up to but not including the throttle body. The plastic panel that surrounds the hood latch has several slotted holes in it which provide an air feed for the stock intake.

Would modifying/deleting this panel be legal? My interpretation of the air intake system on an S2000 would include this piece.

There is no such allowance to remove that. I don't see how you could call it part of the air intake system.

It is classified as an air guide plate under the hood section of the parts guide.

You could try asking for clarification to the SEB.

Why don't you just get a cold air intake?

don't most of the CAI's need to delete this part?

I need to double check the rules, but on first glance, it doesn't seem to be very legal

no, most CAIs trim the bottom splash guard and fender liner to route the tubing into the front fender area, which I don't believe is legal for ST* either. The top plastic area is only really removed if you are installing a pimp looking radiator plate, or routing an intake snorkel like the spoon one, IIRC.

I had an AEM V2 on my 1st S2000, and it was damn loud. I would be afraid of having noise issues with out Atlanta 93dB sound policy with that thing. I dyno'd my car against a stock s2000 (my only power mod was the intake), and they dyno'd just about 1 hp of each other, so I don't think that the stock airbox is the bottleneck in the system, aside from heatsoak issues. I was thinking about putting some insulation around it.

i would avoid doing that unless you want to be protest fodder. i dont think any of the jdm snorkels are legal because you have to remove that radiator air guide panel.

I consider the air guide to be part of the cooling system, keeping most of the air going through the radiator. Write a letter
