My original inquisition on fender/tab rolling was this: if we go to great lengths to roll everything, can we avoid bending a fender or is it inevitable given enough time?

Venues that have crests/valleys:
E-Center (West Valley City, UT)
NT/Pro- Hampton Mills (Packwood, WA)
Blossom Athletic Center (San Antonio, TX)
NT- Gulf Greyhound Park (Houston, TX)
My main concern is with San Diego, where there's a small drainage ditch that you dip into (at speed!) when going from the flat lower part of the lot to the hill section. Derek Punch bent a fender on his STX BMW going through that ditch at this year's San Diego Tour. I'm less worried about rubbing a rolled section than having the fender abruptly impact the tire.

My S2000 is too new to have to worry about bending fenders like that.

Greg, one thing you can do is make sure that the fender buttons at the top of the arch are mostly intact before your runs. They help protect the plastic fender liner, which in turn keeps the tire away from the metal mounting tabs. I don't think V710s will tend to grab the tabs anyway. My fender-tire incident was when I had my street tires on.

So on the tuning issue for the AP1 and 04-05 guys, does any piggyback system meet the rules? I just see everyone talking about using a VAFC when it seems the rules would allow for use of an E-manage or another piggyback that would allow better control than a VAFC.

so was there ever a finished thought on the J's Camber joint S1/S2? Is that part of the knuckle and illegal or is it legal like a camber plate may be on some cars?

If you roll the fender, the tire will have nothing to catch on to. It will simply rub against the nice round edge of the rolled folder and the worst that will happen is the fender looses some paint where it rubbed.
Yeah, you'll remove some paint...and save the tire, but you'll also change the outside profile of your fender. I'm not talking about the initial rolling, I'm talking about when you actually hit... and if you keep running 2.3 degrees or lower, it's not "if"... it's "when."

The last Pro I was at 2 of the top 3 cars (1 MX5 and 1 S2000) had blatant rolling that changed the exterior profile of their fenders. Had nothing to do with a tire pushing it out... heck, one S2000 was running 15mm spacers on +62 wheels! The MX-5 had clearly rolled theres to accept the 255's on all 4 corners. I didn't protest. If the same cars do it again, or if I see it again.. I will. Especially if I see 15mm Spacers... Not trying to be a dick. However, the way I see it, it's a trade off. If you believe you have more grip running 2.2 - 2.3 then run 245's. If you want to not change your fender profile, run a minimum of 2.6.

We were running 2.3 negative when it happened to us (I've been able to push my fender back in....but it ain't pretty) Went to 2.8 negative now and haven't had any new problems. Running 255 Hankook RS3's on +62 TR Motorsports wheels. We've even run in the lot where it happened the first time.

Jim's wheels are actually more like +72 and I don't think he's touched his fenders. They are completely stock aside from the front one he damaged recently on the street.

The MX-5's are legally rolling their fenders from everything I've seen. Not quite sure what you think you've been seeing but its not illegal fenders.

He means the pedantic nature of the fender conversation and how the "P" word is being thrown around.

I agree.
