I was in the 24.5 inch range but if I "roll" my fenders I think 24.0-.25 all the way around is doable.

my jrz's are short body for the rear.

The other important factor in lowering are your spring rates.

850/750 lb/in front/rear

The rear shock bodies are 10.5" from top to center of lower mount bolt.

Regarding rake, I was running the rear 1/2" and front 1/4" higher before changing the spring rates this year. They were 750/600 lb/in F/R.

I have not corner balanced because of so many changes trying different settings. Once I settle into a setup I will corner balance.

Josh,
I think if your fenders change that much from rolling there is something wrong. That may even be non compliant as you would be changing the out side part of the fender. As far as I can tell mine did not change from rolling. Rolling should just fold the metal in board of the fender edge (the part between the tabs and the tabs) against that flat vertical part of the fender.

IIRC, the width of the 245's were very close to the 255's and should shorten the gearing a tiny bit. I'm highly considering these tires, but would like to see them side by side to the 255's before I do.
This would be sweet if I wanted to shift to 3rd by 55

LOL
Not sure it is thaaaat short on the gearing... I'm thinking not even 1mph difference, but I would take it if I don't lose any tread width.

TireRack has the 245s on order, but Hankook isn't shipping many. They said they do have a set of 16 tires on their way to the Nevada warehouse and they'll be arriving Wednesday. I'm going to give the 245/40/17s a try. Hopefully Hankook's stated dimensions are correct...

I know a couple of you guys asked about how to get this tire, so here is the info:

City Tire Online
888-977-TIRE
tell him you're with the SCCA and that James sent you.

As was explained to me by the Hankook rep, there arent many of these and they don't know when they'll get the next shipment, so if you wanna get them, Id get them now before all the STX/STU guys grab them.

I dont have time to get into details, but I did take more pics and run an event, so I'll get into more detail later, but the tire sits quite square on the 9 inch wheel.

James,

Help me understand why a shorter tire is an advantage for you. I have not read about any STR cars wanting slower speeds in 2nd gear. Is faster acceleration more important to you than top speed in a gear, for your AP1?

I think for the AP2, this tire would not be optimal over the 255 its larger overall diameter.

I cannot speak for James, but I can tell you why I am intrigued by this particular tire...

You your guess was right on target. I am more than willing to give up a couple of MPH at the top of 2nd to help keep me in the powerband with our little 2.0l engines. If I were all over the rev limiter in 2nd like the AP2's were, I would not even consider this size as every MPH counts up there. However, with my AP1, I rarely ever hit the top of 2nd at an autocross.
