Why would you do those things? So the internetz think you are cool? Or because it makes the car faster?
If you don't like the rules, don't play in the sandbox.

I would be willing to bet at least 50% of the people that do autocross (overall in all classes) run soming illegal.
ok I'm gonna make a list and could one of you pros give me yea or na's on this mods
1. delete trunck carpet?
2. scrap insolation off floors and trunch?
3. move abs and fuse box out of engine bay but keep it on the car?
4. run hardtop, delete soft top?
5. run berk 70mm high flow cat?
6. run a aem v2 intake? (have to cut some plastic to make it fit)
7. run ap2 front bumper with cr lip? (I wouldnt think it would make a diff at slow speeds)
8. Run a gt-200 rear wing? (also wouldnt matter at slow speeds)
9. run a big brake kit or different caliper?
I think thats all I was wondering about. I didn't seem most of them in the rule book. Its not that I dont like to follow rules, I just don't like people telling me oo you can't do a mod that would really wouldnt even make a difference on the track. Hell I would Like to drop 100 LBS or so of stuff that would be illegal but Becuase its somthing I want to do. 90% of the time locally my girlfriend would be with me (she wieght 102lbs) I'll be running with you guys at least in the same class but just locally but I don't like rules lol
also not being able to run somthing that can change fuel and timing could be big problems for us because once we do intakes, header, and exhaust we are going to be running lean. shock said he was at a 15.9 af before he tuned his. That was with a j's header, t1r 70mm single and aem v2
100 pounds weight loss=Carbon fiber wheels, aluminum shocks w titanium springs,25lb seats, titanium single exhaust, light weight header and high flow cat.All you need is a fat checkbook.
Or in my case go on a diet.

scraping the undercoating and removing the trunk carpet are going to gain you nothing but noise in the cabin. Sure, they might be worth doing on my FP car, since it already has no interior, dash, etc. But on a street driven car, it doesn't make much sense, IMO.

I would do it to balance the car out some. Plus the fact that with less stuff in the engine bay its easier to get around and work on stuff. If I where to relocate my abs and fuse box crap would they try to call me on that? its not like its coming off the car.

2. No
3. No
4. No
5. Yes, if you get rid of the built in 02 spacer and run the 02 sensor directly in the exhaust stream
6. If you cut anything, no
7. Yes (for now - the rules regarding body kits may get revised after 2010)
8. Yes
9. No
100lbs off the car is quite easy. A plastic window AP1 should be near 2580-2600.
Wheels - 20lbs
Battery - 30lbs
Seats - 10lbs total
Header - 15lbs
Exhaust - 25lbs
Intake - 5lbs
Thats not counting aluminum shocks or 2.25" springs.
I'm at 2687 right now with a full tank of gas. (only mod is exhaust and nothing in trunk) I can put my carpet back in though. even though it only wieghts like 10 pounds! I want to be in the 2500lbs range though. I guess we will just have to see what happens. Thanks for answering my questions though.
what are people thinking of running coilover wise. Is kw v3's gonna be the common coilover ran or is this gonna be a big money thing and the fast guys are going to run motons?
since we are going with such stiff shocks and springs is the swaybar set up going to be solid bar and no rear?

Volk CE28N 17 X 9 ET63 will fit and is likely the lightest option. TE37's and RE30's may also come in this size.

Or in my case go on a diet.
me too. A diet and exercise is win-win, weight loss and health benefits!

I think all your concern about the rules, for being a total novice at *driving*, means that you're ignoring everyones advice about getting seat time under your belt before you start modifying things. You're hung up on the mods, and how the the rules don't suit *you*, and spending money, and not your driving.
Trust me on this... 13 years of auto-x, national titles, regional titles under my belt: when you get beat by a lesser prepped car the answer isn't throw more $$ at your car. You need to *drive better*. Please, for the sake of this forum... stop messing up this thread with stuff *you* want to do with your car and complaining about the rules when the things you want to do don't fit within the rules. As Nick said... don't like it? Find another sandbox.
Also keep this in mind when reading the rules... if the rules don't say you can, then you can't. You mentioned that you can't find the answer in the rules. The lack of an answer means that you can't. Try reading other higher prep classes (the answers you are looking for are in the higher prep class rules) and stop mucking up the STR thread with your innaneness.

I'm going to be running Megan's that I paid $600 for used and see where that puts me this year. Not concerned right now with winning, just becoming a better driver in this car.
Bars are still undecided. I like the concept of more spring, less bar, on a properly suspensioned car (a-arms vs MacStruts).
Battery. Ummm.... exhaust. Not even a header or hiflow cat. Just a couple other things at the most. (Sell Rotas and get 6ULRs with BStones).
