I submitted an "allow all" support letter to the SEB. Thinking of the total ST picture, I am for the "allow all" because if you go with "none" the class could evolve into a one car class like ST (Honda Civic) is currently.

Me too, I still have a spare trunk lid I sold my tuned emanage ultimate when STR started to buy a flash pro which was STR legal.
The emanage was a great upgrade good for ~30% more torque below 4500rpm, dual vtec engagement etc. Engaging it at 3500 and off at 4200 gave 5ft/lbs on my car with a stock cat.
I wonder if the AP1 will see anything close to those results. I could use ~30% more TQ down low.

Not quite that much but there are some gains. I will look around for some dyne charts from one of my past tuning events.

I find it funny that you guys are talking about ECUs right now, while a few weeks ago I wrote on the SCCA forums board about opening ECUs to allow standalone ECUs like AEM and Haltech. Here is the link to my proposal:

standalone ECU proposal in ST*

Now I know that some of you may think piggybacks are a solution to bring the AP1s/early AP2s to the same level as the 06+ AP2s, but sadly, that is not the case. Piggybacks are only as good as the people that can tune them, and I know a lot of you think that the Emanage Ultimate is the answer, but if you do a search on it, lots of tuners don't work with that unit, and the ones that say they can, prolly have little or NO experience with it. If you feel like being a guinea pig with your engine, that's your prerogative, but learning to correctly program a piggyback requires a thorough knowledge of the system, and do you really think a tuner that has little/no experience is going to go home a few nights and read the whole manual on the Emanage? Finding a tuner is like finding a doctor, except worse. At least doctors have a level of standard that they must all pass. When you do find a good tuner, they will have far more experience tuning with AEM/MoTec/Haltech then Emanage or most other piggybacks. The real answer you AP1/04-05AP2 guys are looking for are standalones, and they're not even that expensive, relative to what you get.

The 06+ AP2 guys need to get the Hondata unit to reflash which costs $700, while the AEM series 2 plug and play costs $1400. To some that may sound like a lot, but for $700 more you get every ability the AP2+ car gets. As someone that has driven several different STR S2000s, from near stock (like mine) to fully prepped 06+ with a full tune, the tune makes a HUGE difference. Hard to believe its the same car, let alone the same engine. It'll be almost impossible to get somebody to tune an EManage to that level, but it can be done easily with the AEM.

So I would send in your letters in support of the piggybacks, because it's better than nothing, but if you guys are looking to make your car even with the newer S2000s, standalone ECU is your answer. It'll give everyone the same abilities the 06+ S2k owners enjoy. I plan to submit my proposal in a few days, and then if you guys write letters in support, it will gain more attention from the STAC. One other thing, I would send a letter in support of the omission of emissions legality. Please write in favor of getting rid of the emissions legality wording, which is what is proposed, because that is necessary to run standalone ECUS (most don't support factory emssions).

a piggy backed haltech ps1000 can do everything flash pro can but I'd be happy with a full stand alone. plus haltech is about to release there pnp pro 1000 for the ap1.

Annie, all I can tell you was that I had the clutch on my Miata replaced the day before I took it to the Atwater ProSolo for practice starts, and the only break in I did was driving it home and driving it to Atwater...

Just try not to spin/slip the clutch when you launch, and I expect it will be fine.

I sent my letter in and asked that josh7owens be excluded from all tuning allowances because he makes ASSHAT assumptions from peoples posts and then blames it on his cell phone.

Haha,

...and the ap1 VS ap2 battle continues...

Wasn't trying to be a dick but I thought Dave said he read a letter from a STR guy that was against the rule change, instead he was saying they sent a letter in saying no tuning at all. My bad. I would be ok with no tuning at all. It would royally suck for the ap2 though. I just want fair, is that to much to ask for?

Ps- the iPhone is better

Wait, so you want fair, yet you're ok with changing to no tuning at all, which would give your car a distinct advantage? So we should punish the smart people that looked at the rules, interpreted them correctly, and bought the best car for the class, and all because mommy and daddy didn't have the foresight to buy you the RIGHT STR S2000? And when mommy and daddy buy you a CR for graduation, I bet you're gonna become REAL quiet about having "no tuning."

And you say you weren't trying to be a dick... maybe you need to start thinking before you start posting...
