-Official- Is this car worth it thread - vol. 2
I would have to disagree with this. If the clutch still has good grip and doesn't slip, then it is 100% acceptable to keep using it.
I think to have an original clutch in good condition with 70k is actually a good sign. It shows that the previous owner didn't beat on the car.

Hey everybody, first time poster here. I have been looking on craigslist for almost 6 months and this popped up yesterday.

I was looking for something a little later model year and a little lower mileage but this one looks very well taken care of. Does this look like a good deal to you? What should I offer?
Thanks

At the dealership I say bring a flash light and look for orange peel or signs of body work.
If the car dealership will do a compression test great. Make sure they pull the correct fuse first.
If you drive it test the clutch to see if it is slipping.
Once you take it home check out the link in my signature for new owners.

Look for what is stock and what is not. I'd prefer 100% stock. Any records of ownership? A paint depth reading would be nice. Check wehere the bumpers meet the body and check for signs of rubbing. Inspect top in detail, looking rips, tears or repairs. Measure tire depth near the edges, 1/3 in, and middle of tires; seeing if they are wearing uneven. Are brake discs worn even or are they cupping on the edge. I would leave a budget for all the fluids including diff, trans, and brakes to be changed.
My car is about 10 years old, has 67,000 on it. Original clutch and rear brakes.
So, by this time I think all fluids could be changed, filters, plugs (10 years), check brakes, drive car and see if it drives the way you remember S2000's driving c ause you have driven more than one, right? DRive belt to change or has been changed... is a natural as well to check.
Check bodywork adn paint in obvious places, note that a properly repaired car can be just as good as a clean carfax, is just as good as one with a carfax ding several years old.
If the fluids and filters have not been changed that's the first thing you should do.
Tire wear is a give a way to check as well, too much here or there indicates a problem or possible abuse.
