This beautiful AP1 just sold at Mecum Auctions, and the sale price is incredible.

I’ve often said that Florida is a crazy place. Perhaps it’s something in the water down there that causes people to act crazy, and do crazy things. Or, perhaps the Honda enthusiasts of Kissimmee, Florida really just like their S2000s. Mecum Auctions is in Kissimmee this week, and one of the cars up for grabs really caught our attention.

This is a 2003 Honda S2000. It has 885 original miles. It’s a last model year AP1, that is all-original down the factory-fitted Bridgestone RE002 tires. The S2000 bubble has been getting bigger and bigger as of late, but I certainly did not see where this was going.

Fortunately, the S2000-specific Facebook group S2k talk & tech, which is filled with a lot of S2Ki members, caught on to this AP1 for sale, and the comments came flying in. Besides jumping onto S2KI, and making an account if you haven’t already, S2k talk & tech has been a great source of entertainment for us in the office, check it out. It was fun hearing other S2000 enthusiasts had to say about bit, for better or worse. Fortunately, one of the commenters happened to be at the auction watching the bidding go down.

With no reserve on the car, this is a pretty honest look at the high-end status of the S2000 as a collector’s car. When the gavel banged for the last time, the final dollar amount was $71,500. That’s more than double the MSRP of the car back when it was new in 2003! Better start saving those S2000s, the bubble has a long way to go before it bursts.
