Backup axles have been sitting in my garage for about a year.
Did the El Toro pro last year launching at the rev-limiter.
Long story short, I'm pretty certain it's the front CV on my prop-shaft. Looks like one of the three times I had to drop the trans this last year and cut the prop shaft bolts off because I keep rounding them, I nicked the CV housing. All the grease has slung out. Last night, all 6 bolts where loose on the prop shaft... I figure it got hot and stretched the bolts. I bandaided the hole, packed it with grease, and bolted it back up. REALLY shocked I didn't shear it off this last weekend. It still has a little bit of on-power vibration, so I figure the CV is pretty toast (has a significant amount of play).
Off to find a cheap ebay prop-shaft....

Thanks for the suggestions guys! We changed out the rear spring rate this past Friday and made it out to a local S2000 autocross on Saturday.
We're now running 800F/700R on our AST4100s with a Whiteline front bar and 255 star specs at all 4 corners. The rear ride height is a few centimeters higher than on the 550s and we didn't have time to get the alignment checked. I'm interested to see where it sits now.
The car is much improved from our last outing, but there is definitely more speed left in the car. We ended up 1st and 3rd in our class, and I pax'd 2nd or 3rd for the event (there were some good SCCA drivers there).

ok random question. I am putting in a harddog with 6 pt harness this weekend. to remain STR legal do I have to keep the factory three point in the car? I was curious if this fell under stock class rule "Passive restraint systems may not be removed". Granted I am replacing it not removing it. Thoughts?

Must remain, you must remove it to replace it. Therefore - you are removing it and its not legal.

Are you sure Nick? Seems kinda odd. I might ask for a clarification on that one.
Driver restraints as outlined in Section 3.3.1 are allowed. Seats may
not be cut to allow for the installation of alternate seat belts or harnesses.
Passive restraint systems may not be removed. A horizontal
“harness bar” may be used as part of the installation hardware for allowed
driver restraints provided it has no more than two attachment
points and is bolted at those locations. A ‘C’-type harness bar may
also be used. It may have four bolted attachment points (two primary,
and two supporting connections to resist rotation).

3.3.1 Driver Restraints
Seat lap belts are required in all cars, and must be installed in cars with
passive restraint systems that do not include a lap belt. Installation and
the use of shoulder belts or harnesses is strongly recommended,
however non-factory upper body restraints may only be used in open
cars, cars with targa-tops in the open position, or cars with T-tops in
the open position when two conditions are met:
a. The roll structure must meet either the requirements of Appendix C or
the Club Racing General Competition Rules (GCR) 9.4.
b. The top of the roll structure may not be below the top of the driver’s
helmet when the driver is in the normal driving position.

14.2.B. (ST)
The driver and front passenger seats may be replaced, with the
following restrictions: The seating surface must be fully upholstered.
The top of the seat, or an attached headrest, may not be below the
center of the driver’s head. The seat, including mounting hardware,
must weigh at least 25 pounds and must be attached using the OE
body mounting holes/studs. Additional mounting points may be added.
There is no allowance in ST to remove existing restraints. There is in SP however.
15.2.F (SP)
...The standard seat belts may be removed to
facilitate the installation of alternate restraints complying with safety
requirements.
