Anyone see the newest issue of Grassroots? they do another tire comparo and looks like the Hankooks are the winner with the Kumho's pretty close.

Glagola1 has a couple pics in there as well...

I have run 38F/34R +/- 1lb for two events and they seem to work well. I ran the R-S3s back-to-back last and this weekend. Last weekend on 8.5" OEM wheels and yesterday on the 9" 949 wheels. They do seem to be more stable on the 9" wheels.

NOTE about Dunlop Star Specs and shaved...

I was not satisfied with the star specs as the grip seemed to fall off over about 10 events. They started shredding chunks of rubber and showing what appeared to be a couple of layers of rubber just after the wear bars were starting the wear. I thought I was having car setup issues and driving issues and turned out to be just the tires.

After talking to multiple autocrossers about my experience I was told by a one that he experienced the same thing with shaved star specs with two different sets. He now uses full tread star specs for local events and shaved for national tours.

So, if you have shaved star specs and were wondering this story will at least provide some insight.

Now I am back to being competitive with running on R-S3s.

This mirrors my experience with shaved Yokohama AD08s and Dunlop Star Specs. While I didn't experience tire chunking, I did experience an accelerated degradation of grip. I have a set of AD08s here, barely to the wear bars, that are hard and have exposed another layer of compound. On the contrary, the same tires (either manufacturer) on full tread seem to wear well and grip to the wear bars.

Zoom in on this photo in Picasa and look at the line in the center rib:

I highly doubt that there will be any inside (a-arm) rubbing with a +63 and less than -2.5~ degrees of neg camber.

The reports have not been of a-arm rubbing, but of fender liner/engine bay rubbing, and it seems the more neg camber contributes to that.

thanks, but Brian Peters (national champ) kicked everyone's butt with the closest car 1.3 sec behind.

I did not experience any rubbing, but I also did not test for that. I just put on the wheels and ran the event. I'm not worried about it because unless there is a pivot turn (likely local feature only) or parking the car I would not expect to have any issues.

Right now I am running -2.2 deg camber up front and it's lowered about 1".

Typical if people aren't running enough spring rate or are too low. You can do the same thing on the stock wheels and tires.
