Any thoughts on whether the J's S1 camber kit is legal for STR? It's not part of the control arm, it's effectively part of the hub.

SCCA rules for reference:
IMO

Its an arm 'mount' and is therefore legal.

14.8.I

Camber kits, also known as camber compensators, may be installed.
These kits consist of either adjustable length arms or arm mounts
that provide a lateral adjustment to the effective length of a control
arm. Alignment outside the factory specifications is allowed.

Nothing official of course - but I have them on my car.

Not really. Thats pretty typical for anyone driving on 105-110deg surface temp and 90-95deg ambient.

My co-driver and I just ran the RS3's for the first time this weekend, and we experienced the same thing... after the fact, we felt that the tire pressures we went with were way low (32-33)... next time we'll try higher, closer to 40... and after thinking the tires were too hot, doused them with some water, and the car fell off considerably... we ditched the water bottle and the last run of the day netted both of us our fastest times... these things seem to LOVE the heat... and it was damn HOT down here this weekend.

Still contemplating camber though... prolly need to go more aggressive there. What say ye on the camber Nick? Whats the window you're playing in? For this weekend we went with -2.3 in the front, and -2.5 in the rear... seemed to like it, but i also think we were also not running the right tire pressures, so we weren't getting the true feeling of the tires anyway.

All in all though, i'm happy with the tires...

Interesting. I missed that part. Thanks!

I'm at 2.7 up front but I'm still working the outside edge pretty hard on concrete. I'll take that tradeoff to keep some entry and exit front grip. Temps across the tire end up with a 15deg spread - inside hotter than outside. Same story with the rear at 2.2deg.

Yeah, I saw that, but thought that the legality is questionable due to 14.8.I.4:
The knuckle/bearing housing/spindle assembly cannot be modified or replaced.
and them being part of the hub:

I sent in a letter asking for clarification. I think that they are within the intent of the camber kit allowances, since they only allow for lateral movement.

I went with the offset bushings in the upper arm to ensure legality.

On another note, the car will have fresh fender liners for Peru, as we killed the original ones before Blytheville. Man, I hate spending close to $300 on plastic pieces for the car... Hopefully this set will last longer.

+2 for -2.2 in the rear, got mine down to that and the car has been much better... but I can only get -2.1 up front... next step is camber kit, and a front bar and run someting similar to nick but I think a bar without the added camber would cause too much understeer as I am perfectly (for me) balanced at the stock 01 front bar, no rear bar and 700/600 springs. (im on dunlops and my car seems to like 38/32 f/r pressures with this set up and alignment.)

IMO they are not part of the hub. They are a bolt-on mount for the lower arm. Just because they have two bolts that attach it to the hub vs just one bolt through the arm doesn't make them anymore part of the hub than they are part of the lower arm.

Unofficially of course.

How about those fenders Brian? They are not in compliance with the rule... if you want to be legal and all.
