S2000 STR prep resource
fun day bryan! nice meeting you. here's a sequence with you as passenger.. click right. steguis pics
at first, we were absolutely cooking the tires with the timing issues, nonstop reruns, and codriving. i didn't have a time for my first 5 runs! i think i got over 10 runs in my car alone not to mention the reruns perry had! i parked the car for a while and hopped in the gtr for a couple of runs.. holy power!! perry hopped back in my car after it sat for a while and cooled down. then he proceeded to click off those 2 fast runs after he made the course change for the broken pavement. the time was as fast as gj in petschauer's gt3! so sick.
yesterday, i dropped the ride height all around 2 turns on the collars.. realigned it and found some limitations in the adjustment range.
front is at -2.8, 6 deg caster, 0 toe. rear is -2.4, 1/16ths toe in. i requested -2.0 in the rear but no matter what they tried, the shop could not get any less than -2.4 at that ride height and toe. however, i think it worked anyway since we did have a bunch of sweepers and the car turned out to be so well behaved in all elements. by the way, no wheel lift.. we think it was a visual thing with the rear camber.. it was in the -3.5 degree range since i lowered the car without realigning for the last event. it works so well, i'm not touching a thing.. even the big gendron is staying at full stiff.
now i can turn my attention to unleashing some power with the vafc, maybe an intake, and i just might have to ditch the stock exhaust even though i like my car quiet. also picked up the walmart 7lb battery since the price was right.
looking fwd to more seat time in such a fun to drive car!

After looking at the pics pof both our cars i am suprised at how little of a difference there is in the body roll considering you have 1000lb springs and I have 700/600 and I have the stock 01 bar vs your gendron... Mine does roll more but not by as big of a margin as I thought it would...
It was fun shooting you guys today. I'm a bit bummed that I didn't get to run the same heat so it's really hard to compare times but after looking at my own video, I drove like crap and my times reflected that. Unfortunately, I had a CEL in the morning which we now think was due to me running over a quart low on oil. That stayed in the back of my head and threw me off big time.
Fun lot though and I can't wait to go back. It's pretty clear that Dan's setup is the one to clone. Perry clearly showed it was capable of some very insane times. Just 2 seconds off a GT3 running Rs on a low 60 second course is very promising indeed.

Steguis,
I think the "setup to clone" is going to be
-Best shocks you can afford (his motons helped)
-Big Front bar (how big will depend on spring rates, since his are equal f/r his huge gendron bar on full stiff works well, but might cause understeer at full stiff with staggered spring rates)
-no rear bar
-Hankook RS-3's
- and finally stiff springs, exact spring rates will likely vary with driver preference, for example i don't think i would want 1000 all around like him with how bumpy a lot of the lots I run on are, (but I would def benefit from stiffer than my current 700/600 setup)
DISCLAIMER: above is my opinion from seeing him drive, seeing perry drive, riding with him, and my experience with my car
Watching the line he took I think that 1-1.25 of the 1.7ish difference in our setups (combo of big bar v. stock bar, Kooks v dunlops, Motons v Valved koni's, and on that uber smooth lot, his ridiculously high spring rates) the other .5-.7ish was definitely him outdriving me (of course i could be completely wrong on all of this lol)

I'm having way too much fun with this car in STR trim. Just did an out-of-town event at a nice big lot. It's a little bumpy in places but is glass-smooth and grippy compared to what we normally run on. I was spiking up to 1.5G and sustaining 1.2 or 1.3G depending on how you define 'sustain'. Fun!
I've been struggling with oversteer at home on the airport strip, but the majority of our elements are basically slaloms of varying offset and spacing. The car had 600F/500R springs, Penskes, Ankeny front bar on full stiff, stock rear bar, and -2.2 camber front and rear. At the previous local event I pulled the rear bar and the car was much better but still had a bias towards oversteer. At this bigger site with sweepers the car would actually understeer at times. I never thought I would appreciate a little more understeer but I certainly did!
My 4th and quickest lap on Saturday:

My 2nd and quickest clean lap on Sunday:

I managed to finish 2nd in both FTD and PAX for the weekend, I'm pretty happy with that! Granted - it's a small regional event that only had 60-ish drivers total but it was great to do that well on street tires.
I did notice the car tramlines quite badly on rutted roads with the 255s on the front. I just drove 1/2 lane to one side to resolve that whenever possible. Between that and occasional hydroplaning it certainly kept me from falling asleep on the 8-hour drive home in the rain! It's a small price to pay for a lot of fun on the track. Although I wouldn't want my wife to drive it on that road...

Sure:
- Race Technology DL1 logger
- Aiptek A-HD+ camera
- Fasttoys.net bullet cam
- Modifry windscreen mount
The bullet cam is fed into the Aiptek camera. I LOVE being able to review videos between runs, can't do that with a GoPro unless you bring other hardware. I find it too rushed to check data between runs unless you have 10+ minutes to really look over it. Then after the event I combine the video and data with the Race Technology software. I have purchased the Race Tech video license but I don't think it's needed to combine data and video for export.
If you want to simplify and have deep pockets, the DL1 combined with their Video4 looks freaking awesome - it overlays the data directly onto the original video and has multiple bullet cams for different views. You'd still need an external device to view the videos between runs though. I just deal with manually sync'ing the data and video for the YouTube videos.
EDIT: I made the gauges template myself in CorelDraw as I didn't like any of the off-the-shelf options from Race Tech. That took some time. I can share it with any DL1 users if they like it. It's not perfect, but it works at YouTube resolutions.
