Question on body kit rule...

If I have a AP2 and put an AP1 bumper on the car with a exhaust cap for a single exhaust, would that be illegal? With the talk that the body kit's are not going to be allowed after this year would it make it illegal then? Would someone really protest over that?

Reason I ask, I live in California and as we all know, the CHP and Sheriffs can be hard on people with modified exhaust. I figure with the AP1 bumper and cap, and the aftermarket exhaust painted black it shouldn't bring as much attention to it...

Thoughts?

That seems rather heavy... especially with only a half a tank of gas. Sounds like it weighs almost as much as my car.

I never actually weighed mine stock.

I currently have TR 17x9 wheels with dunlops (Heavier than hankooks), gendron 1 and 3/8ths hollow, tein SRC's, light weight battery (11.2lbs), and exhaust cutoff mod. I weighed in with a 3/4 tank of gas at 2695lbs. I have an 05 AP2.

Oh, and I weighed my car at the tour and the pro. Only a difference of 1/2 lbs.

My understanding is yes, the bumper would be an illegal modification with the Bodykit / spoiler delete.

You'd have to an entire AP1 conversion to run it. Would someone protest? I wouldn't risk it...

At the Wendover pro there were a few cars that clearly had changed the profile of their fenders with rolling... I didn't protest... because they out drove me period. The wheel spacers they were running didn't make up 6/10ths on one side....

I will 2nd that. I weighed my 08 in stock class race trim. So lightweight wheels, exhaust cutout, spare and tool kit removed, but full tank of gas. It weighed 2776 at the Dixie Tour. On those same scales on the same day Marc's delete CR weighed 2700 even.

If I can run with half a tank of fuel instead of full the car will drop roughly 45 lbs going from stock to STR.

Just a niggle -- there's no such thing as an "AP1 conversion" in the rules. Package conversions have to be within the same model year.

The proposed elimination of the body allowances is still out for comment. One could argue for allowing swaps of stock trim pieces from the same model (I want an R package spoiler / I hate my R package spoiler).

As the proposal is written currently, I think swapping to an AP1 cover wouldn't be allowed.

I weighed in at 2634 in the Lincoln Pro with a little under 1/2 tank.

Body kits are allowed under the current rules. Being that it is just a bumper cover I would think swapping bumpers would be ok under the current rules. Write to the scca for the official ruling and mention you want to keep the rule related to bodykits as they are thinking about taking it out of the st classes.

You could absolutely swap for AP1 bumper covers. That's currently legal. It may not be forever though so be forewarned.

...That being said, I would never protest somebody because they did this swap. I may be alone though.

This reminds me... I've been meaning to write a letter about keeping the wing/spoiler, but be a little clearer on the language on what would be allowed. I say this as it seems that many of the trackers have the wings and this will push them back into SP vs STR... IMO, that is the spirit of the ST classes.

Plus, with me doing more than autoX with my S2000, I like to have my Mugen SS wang for cosmetic reasons... plus, the CR has that wing... why not allow others to match that?

As of protesting a bumper change from an AP1 to AP2 or vice versa, that would be just big weenie.... both on the protest and the protester. But... that is just me.

If the wing rule is removed, would the dealer installed rear spoiler be allowed under stock class rules? I have seen these in the stock class over the years, but was not sure if they were legal somehow, like the subaru dealer installed short shift kits are legal.
