S2000 STR prep resource
A singular spike to 13.8-ish:1 at VTEC isn't what I would call "dangerous". If your OE map is anything like the AP2 in that area of the curve, the ignition advance isn't that aggressive there anyway. Did you datalog knock signature to see if it was even a problem?
No data logging. None the less lean isn't good and ap1s need to be able to tune. I didn't post the pic to start a post war, just posted to share my graph and show that with tuning (adding fuel (neo doesnt add fuel well)) thiers power to be had. I will send a letter though just to add to the push to allow piggy backs for next season. My s2k is begging for a haltech piggyback.
You can probably have 90% of a fully built STR s2000 for 50% of the cost. The essential basics really aren't that pricey and get you most of the way to a capable car. If you aren't chasing a national trophy, that last 10% probably won't make much of a difference.
Shocks are necessary. $2000 - $4500 mine were used Tein SRC's for $2k... then Springs for $200
Camber Joints are Necessary. $200(ish)
Performance Alignment. $75 - I've had a bunch of these...
Wheels are necessary. $685 - Cheapest version TR Motorsports
Tires are necessary. $600 - Hankook RS3's shipped from the Rack.
Performance Brake Pads $300 (ish)
Front Sway Bar is Necessary $400(ish)... mine was around $800 with my spherical bearing mounts.
Hondata / VAFC / NEO / TUNE $600(ish)
... obviously power mods like Header, intake, exhaust, etc.. raise the price.
Bottom line for a "prepared" car... $4560. That's with all the cheapest stuff. You change to Motons, Volks, Power Mods,...etc... it changes really quick. I'm into my car about $10k in mods.
You pay to play. Oh, and I love it!
