S2000 STR prep resource
I see your point, I would definitely be looking for learning and gaining experience by seeing the best in the sport drive the same course. I haven't been to Nats yet, and to be honest, it would have to be for the experience, which for me includes learning and improving and gaining insight into how the top drivers tackle the sport. I could not, however, expect to trophy. That is a long term goal of mine.
Our region also sends a lot of people (39 last year if I remember correctly), so rumor has it that it a fun time with friends no matter how well you drive. We are also fairly close, as you mentioned, so the drive is reasonable.
It depends on where you live locally on how much you need to spend to be competitive. Locally, I have to compete against two '06 S2000's with Moton Club Sports, high spring rates, big front sway bars, 9" 6ULRs with 255 Star Specs and custom tunes; also a NC MX5 with Moton Club Sports and a slew of other things. I'm still on stock suspension, 9" 6ULRs with 255 Star Specs with only bolts ons waiting for someone on s2ki to sell their used Moton shocks so I can at least save a little bit of money.
I thought about getting some OTS Koni Yellows or at least having them revalved for autox but from what I have read they shouldn't really be used with springs over 600 lbs. It's annoying to go to local events and be automatically 4th or 6th depending on if the 2nd s2k car shows up with its double driver.
Thankfully my driving is improving and I'm within 1 second of them at local events.

I don't think this statement is entirely accurate. I know 500-600 lbs has been tossed around on this site, but it is for OTS, not revalved Konis. There are other choices from Koni besides the sports as well.
I had my converted-to-double-adjustable yellows revalved in '09 by TruChoice and told them i'd be running 1000-1200lb springs. They told me that wouldn't be a problem, but not to plan on going much higher than that. I have no data to back anything up -- just relaying what I was told.
Has anyone ever though to make their own swaybar? Hrpworld.com sells a bunch of different parts to make a blade type bar and they even have a lever with 5 positions on it so you dont even have to jack the car up to adjust it, just pop the hood.
I live right by them and it is great to get endlink replacements and parts. It is a great option if you want a different thickness bar though.
The only problem with them, is when I call in and talk to one of their tech people they can't tell me the spring rate of the blade when on soft. I would hate to buy a blade only to have it be to soft or to stiff.
I wouldn't think too stiff would ever be an issue. Even if it were perfectly rigid, you could just use a softer setting and rely on the twist of the center bar.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know if a bar that is too stiff ever results in mechanical failures on s2000's? I've never heard of any, but wouldn't it be possible to eventually bend the brackets that the bushings mount to, or to pull the brackets themselves out of the frame stripping those threads? I know this was a problem in the back end of some Civics and Integras with bigger bars.
