It's been announced that if there are 51 or more drivers in STR at Nationals this year, that STR will become a full class at Nationals. This includes both open and ladies classes. If there are those on the fence about going to Nationals, hopefully this will encourage you to come!

And by the way, for those that aren't so thrilled about the CR having a weight advantage in STR, there is an easy way to fix this so that all S2000s including CRs are on a level playing field... slightly controversial though, so I haven't really decided if I should send a letter to the STAC about it...

Awe, just write it. I'll back it. Has to be soft top removal.

Where in the rules does it suggest this? It'd be nice to loose 50lbs but damn that's going far to cut weight.

He's saying a rules change he's thinking about proposing. I hope he has something better in mind than soft top removal - I'd probably leave the class if that got passed.

Seems like over reacting to me. No studs or nuts will be immune to the abuse you described -- the damage that occurred was certainly due to the nuts being loose. Just replace any studs that might have been run with loose lugnuts. I wouldn't use those wheel locks either. Just use the lugnuts provided by the Tire Rack or replace them with similar nuts if you think they may have been damaged.
Well it might have been over reacting like you said, but I ended up doing ARP wheel studs and forged lug nuts all the way around, while ditching the hub centering rings as well as the wheel lock. Picked up a good 17mm socket that fits nicely and proper torque wrench. Lesson learned. I won't be going through that again.

Well, since I know people that run CRs in STR, and I don't want them to be royally pissed at me, I won't come straight out and say it, but this is nothing that affects any of the S2000s except the CR. All it would do is level the playing field. Also, when I think about rules changes, I think about the impact to other classes, and the one you guys are assuming, removing the softtop, would affect other classes as well. This rules change would, as of now, only affect STR. To give you guys a hint, there is one other car in STR that might be affected, but it's not a popular car. It's VERY similar to the CR though.

'03 Miata Club Sport? Trying to make them run with the hardtops on? Difference is, the Club Sport had a soft top option, CR didn't have such an option.
