So what will a 1.5-way get you on an auto-x course? Edumacate me.
Stock LSD is essentially a 1way diff that is open under deceleration - then locks under acceleration. This allows for a looser car on entry/off throttle because both rear wheels can spin at any angular velocity - there is no resistance to turning from the rear wheels. Lockup split under acceleration is based solely on loading of the spider gears based on feedback torque from the driven wheels.

A 1.5way is locked under acceleration and you can tune deceleration with different cam/ramp angles. You can "lock up" the rear wheels to keep the car more stable under braking and turn in. You can also tune the same cam/ramp angles to change the characteristics of lockup under acceleration.

Essentially its another tool used to tune the balance of the car. Is it necessary for an STR car? Maybe in 3-4yrs; but not right now. I won't be spending the money on one until I'm confident that parity exists in the class or the S2000 is a clear "winner"

those 2 corners you mention i had wheelspin in 2nd, so going to first would have been abrupt, and would only aggrivate the wheelspin more.

it will help also with part throttle and full throttle characteristics and behavior. you can tune how much and how fast the diff works. will help with putting the power down.

like nick said its another tuning tool to add to the bag (as if there wasn't enough already). at least my shocks wont have any knobs to turn

I never found the S2000 to be a loose car while braking or while trail braking. It's actually the most stable trail braking car I've ever driven.

I think a diff will make a difference on the car, and will be putting an OS Giken diff on my wife's STR car before the start of next season. I am partly doing it as preventive maintenance, as the stock diff had a lot of abuse from a few years of use in AS.

This is the benefit as I see it in STR.

Much more predictable on corner exit throttle. Getting on the gas a little earlier and a little more aggressively without worrying about upsetting car balance will be huge (I think).

I agree that getting on the gas sooner will be important. It seems that the peaky powerband is the biggest hurdle the s2000 has. Fattening up the middle of the curve should help with exit power delivery. You certainly don't want vtec to pop hard while at the limit in corner exit.

About the best mod I'm going to make to my car is learning how to drive it. It's a tricky bastard on street tires. That's one thing I think the MX5 may have on us. I guess we could always just detune the motor at higher revs. The flashpro has the ability to change the throttle position relative to the rpms even while the foot is mashed. That would be rich.

Looks so high in the front, at least compared to what I remember from our AS car.

Brian, your car looks wayyyyy toooo low in those pictures for a stock car. You sure those perches were in the right spot?
