Tips and advice please and thank you,

Looking at a 2005 Rio Yellow with 77,500 miles on the car, soft top looks to have one small spot that was repaired and on the entire car there is one maybe inch long spot where the paint looks to have been chipped by a shopping cart etc. The front bumper is showing a little age with rock chips etc. nothing major at all. Interior is mint with a little wear on the steering wheel. Brand new tires, clean wheels no rash, no dents or anything just the small scrape on the passenger fender. ITs a 2 owner car with clean car fax first guy owned it 4 years and second guy just traded it in owned it for the same amount of time. Don't have any pictures at this point but if I get any they will go up here for an update. Car is completely stock only extra is a canvas soft top cover.

Dealer is asking right around $17K what do you guys think? Gonna obviously try and talk them down some just wanted to get the experts opinions. Will be my first s2k I have owned 2 MR2's and a few VW's need another smaller fun car.

Thanks in advance.
Chris

I'm looking at a 2000 S2000 with 171,000 miles. It has a clean carfax that shows 2 previous owners and is listed at $7700. It is being sold by a dealer in the upper midwest. He said he got it as a trade in. I'm going to take it for a test drive this weekend so I will be able to gather more info about it's actual condition. From the pictures it looks very clean. Is it worth it?

I think I know which one you are looking at and on paper it sounds like it's worth considering. If you can get the price down a bit, maybe $15-16k? It has a decent maintenance history, 2nd owner did all the fluids around 40k miles, he prob kept up on oil changes too. Maybe mention that winter is coming, it may need new tires, brakes, and fluids changed again soon. LOTS of s2k's are going for sale now so it should be a buyers market. If it's the color/miles you want and within your budget, take it for a spin.

Thanks for the heads up and the ball park, I got them down right in the ball park your talking, maintenance history is alright up to about 60k it was taken to the dealer every 5k and it looks to have brand new tires. It had a engine cel on that they took a look at and it was a misfire issue which is really making me second guess the car. They changed the spark plugs and the cell is gone but from what ive read on here it may be gone for a bit but could come back as there are a number of causes for the misfire which some are very pricey. Going to talk to another manager tomorrow and see if they can either do compression test and leak down test to make me feel better about it or offer me a little better warranty.

Hello,

I'm looking for a S2000 but in my City all are listed $3,000.00 to about $6,000.00 over their Black Book value.

Is it realistic to look for one that is only $1,000.00 or maybe $2,000.00 over the BB price?

For instance there's a 2003 with 71000 on it selling for $19,000.00...is this a good deal?

Any input will be greatly appreciated as I really want a S2000.

Doesn't sound like a good deal to me (Canadian dollars?) - but I cant see and inspect the vehicle. Until you are ready to travel to find the right S2k, maybe you should hold off.

Consider your local market. Do you have evidence that S2Ks are actually selling for these prices, or are these just the asking prices? Have you actually tried making a reasonable offer?

I've seen several similar posts from you now. I suggest digging-in and doing your research on your purchase and the right approach. Be fully prepared (with your $) to make a purchase you can afford and be willing to travel. If you cant travel or make a purchase long-distance, then make your best deal on the right car locally and live with it.

And finally, most importantly be patient. Are you really financially ready for this? If so, there is no shortage of quality S2Ks coming up for sale on a regular basis, despite the impression you may get being here on these forums.

Good luck.

That misfire cel would make me cautious, and I don't trust dealerships. Definitely get a compression and leakdown test (perhaps at a shop of your choosing?) and some test drives if you're going to considering it.

Thanks for the input 2K.

For awhile I was considering switching to a WRX until my research warned me against a used one.

Now with the research I've done about the S2 it's going to be my next car and your advice on being patient is a good one.

How much should this sale for? It looks all stock to me, even down to the red stitching.

Is this worth it? My dad is worried about high mileage, but I know how reliable these cars can be if maintained properly. What sort of routine costs am I in for? Btw, the car is for me. It'll be my first manual transmission or RWD car...so I'm very excited and worried that that excitement is making me hasty in my decision making. Please bring me down to earth if this isn't a good buy!
