I am curious to hear what you thought about the XS' in comparison to the RS3's. I've thought about going XS' for dry/hot and R1R's for wet/cold, but it seems that the XS' did not get a good review early on with the S2000.

Okay.... that is a rockin amount of entries at a tour for any class!!

Have we heard anything about making this a real class?

STR is Supplemental for this year with possible full National status in 2012 if the current STR entry count stays as high as it has been is what I have been hearing.

Thanks Andy! I was hoping with the huge success (usually one of the largest classes, if not the largest, at each event) and lack of needing to make mid-season changes, that they would make an exception to make it happen this year. IMO of course, this is an exceptional class that should be considered for full National status.

Then again, I have no idea what I am saying, but that doesn't stop most from voicing their opinion... so why not me? And yes, I did send a letter.

Just by looking at them quickly in the garage, it appears that the RS-3s are a bit wider than the Kumhos, and maybe a bit shorter. The full tread RS-3s were the same height as fully worn Kumhos.
Unlike everyone else that is looking for a shorter tire, I would actually like a touch taller tire to keep out of the rev limiter. The AP2 has plenty of torque to get it moving at lower RPMs.

I'm very curious to see how they feel.
I'm going to put them on the car tomorrow and run them for a good 60 miles just to break them in and make sure all is well before Dixie.

When I tried out the Kumho's they felt like they had better turn in and feel than the Hankooks, but didn't have the side bite that the Hankooks. They were about a 1/2 second slower on a 60 second course on concrete vs on asphalt where they were about 1/2 second faster than the Hankooks.

You guys that are feeling major differences between tires need to play with your shocks more.

Tire's should never really feel numb or sloppy, every tire will require a slightly different setup. On my car, the tires with the best turn in were the R1R's, I loved the feel of those things. So much front grip, I still had work to do to make the rear end work better though.

BTW - my car is for sale in the classifieds forum - please forward to anyone you know that is interested.

This is an interesting statement. Do you mind explaining more of how you came to the conclusion of how much faster/slower they were on different surfaces?

Same day testing with Guy Ankeny. 1 car, 2 sets of wheels, same course 2 different drivers. Then did the same thing at a different lot not long after with a differnt surface.

Wow, nice! Had the suspension been tuned previously for one of those two tires? And I assume the tires weren't markedly different in terms of tire wear at either test?

Thanks for sharing.
