There are a couple companies that make a spring locator (I guess also called isolators?) that fit into the OEM upper mount.

Are there non-rubber 3rd party options? That would have saved me a ton of work if I was smart enough to find them...

No, they are both of the polyurethane variety, but looks like they are more than adequate for the task.

I tore up some of the poly ones when I had my Prelude, that's why I went with Al on these.

Drew - I'm having some trouble coming up with a better idea - but I know I have one that will work with 2.5" springs - but not 2.25" springs.

Use a 2.5" V-Band flange turn it so that the small diameter size is facing the upper mount - it will fit in between the two bolts - I just tested it. So now we have a flat surface to mount the spring to. Problem is that we don't have it located because we took the smaller diameter and turned it the wrong direction. Take some 2.5" exhaust pipe and weld it into the flange - doesn't need to be longer than 1" of pipe. This will locate the spring.

Tack weld the entire assembly into the upper mount. Basically we are making a steel spring coupler - basically the exact same thing as what is in between a tender/main spring combo.

Vband flange = $10

2.5" steel - $5 for a foot.

Total would be around $50-55 after shipping for 4 spacers. Would increase spring length by about .5 -.75 inches.

I can't find any 2.25" mild steel vband flanges so we're screwed there.

<----------has 2.25" front springs...

The stock S2000 bushings have a lot of metal in them. The same bushings in a CRX are all rubber. I've mounted my shocks like John and have had no issues yet and I don't expect any.
Hey Matt, did you use a washer in between the upper spring perch and the bushing, or does the upper spring perch come in direct contact with the bushing on the upper mount?

I didn't use any washers. I haven't noticed the upper perch making contact with the stock hat. I really haven't looked either though.

Nick - you can use the Penske upper perches in conjunction with the adapter for the OE topmount. The upper perch installs on the shock shaft below the adapter, and you can locate the spring that way. That's how Hollis has his installed, and as Matt noted, the S2k topmount/adapter is the same as that of the EF Civic.

I did the Al isolator thing because it worked best for my requirements(being able to swap back to BS quickly and easily), but it's far from required.

Here's some STR action to wet your appetites. It's a smallish course on beautiful but dirty asphalt. The car has brand new full treads on 8.5" wheels. They had 400-ish miles on them before the event. I couldn't believe how good they felt as the day wore on. I was shocked really. It makes me want to test against the shaved tires directly.

The upper spring pearch only comes in contact with the lower top mount bushing.

How did you do compared to others at the event? Any other STR cars?

Are you running the 255/35/17 Toyos?

Car sounds nice.
